Orientalism has been defined as the Occidental "West" attempt to conceptualize the Oriental Middle East. Images and themes, often idealized and fantastic in nature also provided a melding of the two cultures. Today the delineations between the East and West are increasingly blurred with the East and West exporting and interpreting their respective societies. Living in the West, with family roots in Iran, as a conceptual artist I examine and define these perceived differences and similarities, creating works that can revise, and explore the "Orient". Reaching beyond the borders of the United States and Iran, developing themes that reflect the modern, mystic, and visceral reality of a "Neo Orientalist".
